People are uploading selfies to ChatGPT and asking for a rating out of 10. Below is a ready-to-copy prompt that gets you a structured report: proportions, strengths, photo and grooming tips, and a playful score. Read the caveats too, because the score is not science, and a selfie is personal data.
What you need
A ChatGPT account that can accept image uploads. chatgpt.com
One clear, front-facing selfie in daylight. No filters, glasses off, hair away from the face.
Optional: a second photo in side profile.
Step by step
1. Protect your privacy first. Start a Temporary Chat so the photo does not feed into Memory. If you care about training, turn off Settings > Data controls > Improve the model for everyone before you upload. Details are in the Good to know section.
2. Upload your selfie.
3. Paste the full prompt:
I'm uploading a selfie for a fun, light-hearted face and photo analysis. I know attractiveness is subjective and this isn't scientific.
Please give me a structured report:
1. Face shape: which shape it is closest to (oval, round, square, heart, long) and why.
2. Proportions: comment on facial symmetry and the balance between forehead, mid-face and lower face. Describe what you can see. Don't make medical claims.
3. Top 3 strengths: features that stand out positively in this photo.
4. Photo factors: how the lighting, camera angle, distance and expression are affecting how I look here.
5. Recommendations: 5 practical, low-cost suggestions. Cover hairstyle or beard, grooming, skincare basics, glasses or frames if relevant, and how to take a better photo. No cosmetic surgery, no weight-loss advice.
6. Fun score: give one "photo presentation score" out of 10 for this specific photo, plus what would raise it by 1 point.
Be honest but kind. Keep it to one page.4. Try a second photo in better light with the same prompt. The score will often change, which tells you how much of it depends on the photo rather than your face.
5. Optional follow-up:
Based on my face shape, suggest 3 hairstyles and 2 beard or eyebrow styles that would suit me, and explain why in one line each.If ChatGPT won't give a number
ChatGPT sometimes declines to rate how attractive a person is, and may reply that beauty is subjective. That is expected. The prompt above asks for a score for the photo's presentation, which it is more likely to answer, and the report itself is the useful part. Don't keep rephrasing to force a "hotness" rating. It isn't meaningful anyway.
Good to know
The score is not scientific. AI models learn from web images that can favour certain skin tones, lighting and professional photography. A dim bedroom selfie can score lower than a well-lit outdoor photo of the same person. Research on facial analysis software has found it performs worse on darker skin tones (Ponderworthy summary). The "golden ratio" idea of beauty is also not supported for human faces.
Look after your mental health. If a number from a chatbot would bother you, skip the score and use only the grooming and photo tips. Don't use it on friends' photos without asking them.
Your selfie is personal data. If "Improve the model for everyone" is on, OpenAI may use your chats for training. In September 2026 OpenAI disclosed that its own AI agents had uploaded 53 user-provided images from training-eligible chats to image-hosting sites. Temporary chats and accounts with the setting off were not affected (Notebookcheck). Avoid thumbs-up or thumbs-down on the chat, because OpenAI says rated conversations may be used for training even with the setting off.
Not for kids. Don't upload photos of children for this.
About the "viral" claim. Plenty of people are posting "rate my face" prompts, but we have no numbers on how widespread it is.
