Applying on one big portal and waiting rarely works. This guide gives you a short list of job sites by goal, a plain resume template that recruiters and screening software can read, three prompts to tailor it, and setup steps for Career-Ops, a free AI job search agent that runs in Claude Code.
What you need
Your current resume (PDF or text) and 2 to 3 job descriptions you want.
Any AI chat app (Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini) for the prompts.
For Career-Ops: Node.js and an AI coding CLI such as Claude Code. A paid Claude plan helps, but the project also documents free and local model options.
Step by step
Pick portals by goal, not by habit. Our suggested order for Indian job seekers:
Company career pages via HiringCafe: it collects listings from employers' own career sites, so you apply at the source. It says it indexes about 5.7 million open roles and offers a free AI job agent. Check how well it covers your city and role.
Naukri: a general job site for Indian roles across many industries.
Instahyre: Indian job listings by city and role, with many tech roles.
Wellfound: formerly AngelList Talent, now a startup job marketplace with 27,000+ companies hiring. It has long shown salary and equity up front.
YC Work at a Startup: one application that Y Combinator-funded startups can browse and contact you from.
Himalayas: remote jobs. Use its country filter to avoid "remote, US only" roles.
foundit: Monster India renamed itself foundit in 2022.
LinkedIn: useful for research and reaching hiring managers. Easy Apply makes applying quick for everyone, so tailor your resume before you apply.
Copy this resume template. One page, single column, no tables or photos, so screening software can read it:

- Name, one line on what it showsPrompt 1: tailor your resume to one job.
Here is my resume and a job description. Rewrite my resume for this job.
Rules: use only facts from my resume. Do not invent jobs, numbers, tools or
degrees. Reorder bullets so the most relevant come first. Use the job
description's wording where it truthfully matches my experience.
Keep it to one page in plain text.

Rewrite each bullet below as: action verb + what I did + result.
If a result has no number, ask me for the real number instead of guessing.
Keep each bullet under 25 words.
BULLETS: [paste]Prompt 3: find the gaps before you apply.
Compare my resume with this job description. List:
1. Must-have skills I clearly show.
2. Must-have skills missing or weak in my resume.
3. 3 interview questions I'm likely to get, based on the gaps.
Be honest. If I'm a weak fit, say so.

Its scanner is global. It comes with 100+ companies and searches boards like Ashby, Greenhouse, Lever and Wellfound. Add Indian companies yourself in
