On 22 September 2026, Tesla announced two new Grok features for its cars: Connectors and Grok Bot. Here is what they actually do, what is still not available, and what it means if you are in India.
What happened
Connectors. Tesla says Grok in the car can now connect to your email, calendar and files. You can ask it to manage your inbox, clean up your calendar, or talk through existing files, chats and tasks. To set one up, open the Grok app in the car, tap +, choose New Connector, pick a service and sign in. Tesla North
Which services? Not a Tesla App names Gmail and Google Calendar as examples. Tesla North says Tesla did not list all supported services at launch.
Grok Bot (agent tasks). A separate capability that runs errands for you: placing your usual coffee order, booking a restaurant reservation, scheduling an appointment, or checking out an online cart with saved payment details. Not a Tesla App describes a demo where Grok orders a usual Starbucks drink while the car drives on FSD, then confirms the drink and total. Not a Tesla App
Who gets it. Grok Bot's errand features are currently limited to SuperGrok Heavy subscribers. Tesla says other tiers will get access later. Reports differ on whether Connectors need a paid plan: Not a Tesla App says anyone can configure them, while Tesla North says this was not stated. Let's Data Science
How to call it. Say "Hey Grok", hold the mic button on the steering wheel, or open the Grok app.
What it is not. Tesla describes these as assistant features, not new self-driving abilities. We found no official release that lets Grok drive or move the car on a voice command like "move my car out of the driveway". Reports say Grok control of FSD is in development, with Elon Musk saying it would come "sometime this fall", but no customer release was confirmed in what we found. Not a Tesla App, Basenor
Not yet confirmed: the "I'm 20 minutes late, tell them and move the meeting" example. The closest confirmed uses are cleaning up a calendar and scheduling appointments. Grok in the car can make calls, but Not a Tesla App reports text messaging is still in development.
Why it matters for you
Grok is already in Indian Teslas, but not this. Tesla rolled out Grok to the Model Y in India through an over-the-air update at no extra cost, with support for Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. Reports on the India launch cover trip planning and finding nearby chargers, cafes, ATMs and hospitals. They do not mention Connectors or Grok Bot, so do not assume errands work here yet. Autocar India
Ordering services may not match. The coffee demo uses US services. Whether Grok Bot can work with Indian apps and payment methods has not been announced.
Privacy is the real trade-off. A connector gives an AI in your car access to your email, calendar and files. Connect only accounts you are comfortable sharing, and check what Grok can do before it sends or buys anything.
The bigger trend is agents. Phones, browsers and now cars are moving from "answer my question" to "do this task for me". Expect the same idea in more apps you use daily.
What to watch next
Whether Grok Bot opens to cheaper SuperGrok tiers, as Tesla has said it will.
Which email, calendar and shopping services are officially supported.
Any Tesla announcement of Connectors or Grok Bot for India.
The promised Grok and FSD integration, and whether voice driving commands ever ship to customers.
