YouTube Agent Skill is a free, MIT-licensed GitHub repo that adds eleven YouTube skills to Claude. It helps you script, package, plan and review videos. It does not upload or post anything for you. Here is the repo, what each skill does, and how to set it up in a few minutes.
What you need
The repo: github.com/Jakeschincariol/youtube-agent-skill. Free, MIT licence, about 1,800 stars when we checked. You may see copies under other GitHub names. They are forks of this original.
Claude Code, Anthropic's command-line tool. This is the main way the repo is meant to be used. You can also paste a single skill file into a normal Claude chat to use it as a mode, but you lose the Python tools.
Python 3 for the six helper tools. No extra libraries needed.
No YouTube API key. The repo says there is nothing to connect.
Step by step
1. Install the skills. Pick one method.
Easiest: paste this into Claude Code.
https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/youtube-agent-skill
Install this skill, then confirm /yt-script works. As a plugin inside Claude Code:
/plugin marketplace add Jakeschincariol/youtube-agent-skill
/plugin install youtube-agentOr manually from your terminal:
git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/youtube-agent-skill.git
cp -r youtube-agent-skill/skills/yt-* ~/.claude/skills/2. Set up your voice file. Copy templates/voice.md to ~/.claude/youtube/voice.md and fill it in. This is how the skills write in your style. Or ask Claude to draft it:
Read the transcripts of these three videos of mine and fill in ~/.claude/youtube/voice.md using the template. Capture my tone, the words I use often, how I open videos, and the phrases I never use. Show me the file before saving.
[paste 3 transcripts]3. Learn the eleven skills.
/yt-script: One idea to a script: five hooks from 21 formulas, scored, then the full script with retention beats
/yt-package: Checks your title and thumbnail text together for truncation, repetition and vagueness
/yt-edit: Turns a transcript into an edit list of dead air, filler and retakes, with timecodes
/yt-comment: Sorts comments into four groups, drafts replies in your voice, suggests one to pin
/yt-plan: Builds your week around your hours: one main video, one quick one, three Shorts
/yt-viral: Ranks videos in your niche by how far each beat its own channel's usual views
/yt-retention: Reads your retention export and finds where viewers leave, with fixes
/yt-shorts: Finds Shorts inside a long video and writes a new first line for each
/yt-seo: Drafts a description, tags and three search queries the video should rank for
/yt-chapters: Builds chapters from a transcript and checks them against YouTube's rules
/yt-audit: Reviews your whole channel and ends with one fix
4. Try your first script. In Claude Code:
/yt-script Topic: 5 free AI tools for college students in India. Length: 8 minutes. Audience: first-year students. Language: Hinglish in Roman script.5. Check a hook or title with the helper tools.
python3 skills/yt-script/hookscore.py --hook "Your first line here"
python3 skills/yt-package/title.py --title "Your title" --thumb "Your thumbnail text"
python3 skills/yt-edit/deadair.py transcript.srt
python3 skills/yt-chapters/chapters.py transcript.srt6. Plan your week.
/yt-plan I have 10 hours this week. Niche: AI tools for Indian creators. I publish long videos on Sunday.7. Review, then upload yourself. Each skill ends with a block to copy and asks whether to ship it or change it. Nothing is posted automatically.
Good to know
What it does not do. It does not edit video files or design thumbnails.
/yt-editgives you an edit list for your editor, and/yt-packagechecks thumbnail text against your title.Use viral research for ideas, not copies.
/yt-viralreads public listings to show what is working. Do not reupload or closely copy other creators' videos, scripts or thumbnails. That can break YouTube's rules and copyright law. Make your own take, in your own words.Scores are guides. The author says the hook scorer is a heuristic calibrated on 74 hooks, not a predictor of views.
Cost. The repo is free, but using Claude itself may cost money depending on your Claude plan.
Check what you install. Skills run on your computer. Read the files before installing any repo, including this one.
