Most people apply to jobs one at a time and send the same resume everywhere. This guide gives you the five prompts from the reel so you can search faster, fix your resume once, and tailor it for each role.
One change first. The reel says "agent mode", but OpenAI has retired ChatGPT agent. Its help page now says to use ChatGPT Work for longer multi-step tasks, and the cloud browser for web tasks. The steps below are the same. Only the place you start the task has changed.
What you need
A ChatGPT Plus plan. The cloud browser in Work is available on paid plans except Free and Go, and the website sign-in feature is listed for Plus and Pro.
ChatGPT on web or mobile.
Your current resume, pasted as text.
Your target city (or remote) and your level, such as fresher or 3 years.
Time at your screen. The browser pauses for logins and confirmations.
Step by step
1. Find the 20 titles you fit and the keywords ATS scans for
Paste this in a normal chat with your resume:
Act as a senior recruiter. Here is my resume: [paste resume]. I am looking for roles in [city or remote] at [fresher / X years] level.
1. List the 20 job titles I am most qualified for, best fit first, with a one-line reason each.
2. For my top 5 titles, list the exact skills, tools and keywords that recruiters and applicant tracking systems look for in job descriptions.
3. Show which of those keywords are missing from my resume.
Do not invent experience.2. Build one master resume with the XYZ formula
The XYZ formula comes from Laszlo Bock, Google's former head of people operations. Every bullet reads: "Accomplished [X] as measured by [Y] by doing [Z]." For example, "Cut report time by 40% by automating the weekly Excel export."
Rewrite my resume into one master resume. Use a single column and standard headings: Summary, Skills, Experience, Education, Projects. No tables, icons, photos or text boxes.
Write every bullet as: Accomplished [X] as measured by [Y] by doing [Z]. Start with a strong verb.
If I did not give a number, write [ADD NUMBER] and ask me. Never invent figures.
Then list the red flags a hiring manager would notice in 10 seconds, such as unexplained gaps, vague duties, typos, inconsistent dates and buzzwords with no proof. Give a fix for each.Fill in every [ADD NUMBER] yourself before you move on.
3. Search for matching jobs from the last 7 days
Open ChatGPT on web or mobile and start a task in Work. Approve website access when it asks. If a site needs a login, use the secure sign-in form. OpenAI says your username and password are not visible to the model.
Find jobs posted in the last 7 days that match my top 5 titles in [city or remote]. Use Indeed and company career pages. For each job, collect: title, company, location, posted date, link and key requirements.
Skip duplicates, older listings, and anything that asks me to pay to apply.
Stop and ask me before you sign in anywhere or submit anything. For LinkedIn, run the search yourself with the date filter set to the past week and paste the job links or descriptions into ChatGPT. See the note on LinkedIn below.
4. Get a spreadsheet with a match score and a tailored resume
Using my master resume and the jobs you found, create a spreadsheet with these columns: job title, company, location, posted date, link, match score out of 10, matched keywords, missing keywords, and one line on why it fits.
Then write a tailored resume for each of the 5 highest scores. Only reorder, reword and emphasise what is already true in my master resume. Do not add skills or experience I do not have. The match score is ChatGPT's estimate, not a real ATS score. Use it to sort, not to decide.
5. Customise each application, then submit it yourself
Here is the job description: [paste or link]. Compare it with my master resume and give me: a tailored resume using only facts from my master resume, a cover note under 120 words, and draft answers to any application questions.
Flag anything the job requires that I do not have.Read every line, fix anything that is wrong, and press submit yourself on the employer's site.
Good to know
Agent mode is gone. OpenAI says ChatGPT agent is no longer available. Some users on OpenAI's forum say Work does not behave exactly like the old agent, so your results may differ from the reel.
Be at your screen. The cloud browser pauses when it needs your input, a sign-in or a confirmation. You can also ask it to hand control to you.
Some sites block automated browsing. If a page loads in your own browser but not in ChatGPT's, take over the browser or search that site yourself.
LinkedIn does not allow bots. Its help page says third-party tools that automate activity on the site break its User Agreement, and members who use them risk having their accounts restricted or shut down. Check every application yourself before you submit it.
Your login stays in the cloud browser after you sign in. You can clear it under Settings, then Cloud browser.
Work usage follows the same structure as Codex, so long runs use up your allowance faster than normal chats.
Never let ChatGPT invent numbers, skills or job titles. A false claim on a resume can cost you an offer.
No tool can guarantee interviews. Better keywords and a tailored resume improve your chances, nothing more.
